Counselling

Counselling can help in a range of situations:

Counselling provides a non-judgmental place to share concerns and worries, to explore options and find relief from difficulties. The aim is to help you move forward in your life.  How long it takes depends on your goals and your level  of comfort with change but results can come remarkably quickly if you are ready to act.   You move at your own pace and you decide what to work on.  At the start of the counselling we would discuss and set goals and have regular reviews to ensure that we are making progress. I see therapy as a collaborative process and my aim is to give you the skills to become independent of me.  I specialise in shorter term, solution focused therapy.  Sessions last about an  hour and are usually weekly and at regular times.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy can be combined with counselling or can be a stand alone treatment for some issues.  Research has shown that hypnotherapy combined with cognitive behavioural techniques can be very effective in a range of situations.  For example:

  • Fears and phobias
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Confidence boosting
  • Health issues such as pain management and IBS
  • Weight loss
  • Smoking cessation
  • Addictive behaviours
  • Habit changing

Hypnotherapy involves focusing your attention on a specific goal and bringing your own imagination into play to help you achieve change.  As part of the process you learn to relax yourself and to employ the techniques of visualisation by yourself.  Practising at  home can mean that treatment can be very fast and effective.  You remain in control and you cannot be made to do anything you do  not want to do.  Hypnotherapy is very different from stage hypnosis and usually a very relaxing and pleasant way to learn to feel better.

Some treatments can be very short – 2 or 3 sessions and some smokers take only one session.  More deep seated problems can take longer and we would discuss treatment length after a consultation in the first session.
